Methodology

League-aware rankings, in plain language.

Berzerker Fantasy Football does not publish a single public “true” ranking list. The board you use is shaped by the league you connected. This page explains the idea, the inputs, and the limits — without accuracy bragging.

Consensus is the starting point

FantasyPros consensus rankings are imported through a server-side connection. That consensus is expert-rank input, not a Berzerker promise that a player will score a certain number of points.

The workspace then matches that board to the scoring and roster rules of the active ESPN or Sleeper league. A 1QB PPR league and a superflex tight-end-premium league should not see the same order.

Replacement value (VOR), without the jargon pile-up

Value over replacement asks a simple question: how much better is this player than the next one you could start at that position? If you need a running back and the next available starter is replacement-level, the gap is the value.

Replacement is estimated from your league size and roster slots. Twelve teams with two RB slots need more starting running backs than ten teams with one. Flex spots are shared across the positions that can fill them. The last starter plus one is the usual replacement line, capped by how many ranked players actually exist.

That is why a quarterback can jump the board in superflex (you can start two) and why a tight end can move up when your league pays extra points per reception.

What the heuristic adjusts

The in-app value number is a heuristic on top of overall rank and positional replacement — not a full replay of every custom scoring rule your host might support. In the workspace it is labeled as custom rank-value units, not fantasy points.

Season view leans on consensus rank versus replacement, then applies modest format weights for PPR or half-PPR skill players, superflex quarterbacks, and premium tight ends when those league settings are present. Weekly view can add capped upside/bust and schedule adjustments when those fields are supplied, and injury notes (out/IR, doubtful, questionable) reduce value. Blank injury notes do not verify that a player is healthy.

Lineup suggestions fill required slots with the highest-rated eligible players, then flex, then kicker and defense. They are not submitted lineups to ESPN or Sleeper.

What this is not

This is not a guarantee of fantasy points, wins, or draft outcomes. Rankings, start/sit comparisons, trade values, and Ask Berzerker answers can be wrong.

Playoff odds and similar league-report figures are directional estimates from record, scoring, and roster strength. They are not provider projections.

Edge expected-value figures and JohnStradamus / Premortem write-ups are research or editorial tools. They are not a sportsbook, not a bet slip, and not gambling advice.

Workspace formula (heuristic, not a scoring engine)

Player value = max(0, exp(−(overall rank − 1) / 55) − positional replacement value) × 1,000. Replacement uses team count and configured roster slots, capped at the available player pool. Format weights and injury factors are listed in the workspace under “How these metrics are calculated.” Treat that as transparency, not a claim of a complete scoring engine.
